[By NBC-1TV H. J Yook]GM Korea Company announced today that it sold 68,359 vehicles in May. This was up 16.0 percent from the previous month and 1.2 percent from the same month last year.
GM Korea’s sales in Korea were up 15.1 percent to 11,810 units from 10,260 units sold in April. May sales benefited from the recently introduced 2014 Chevrolet G2 Cruze, which includes a new second-generation six-speed transmission, and the newly launched Chevrolet Spark, which offers enhanced performance and fuel efficiency. Domestic sales of the Cruze and Spark rose 64.3 percent and 24.7 percent respectively from last month.
Exports of complete vehicles in May totaled 56,549 units, which was up 3.6 percent from 54,564 units exported in the same month last year. GM Korea also exported 105,920 complete knockdown (CKD) kits of parts and components to be assembled into vehicles.
For the first five months of 2013, GM Korea recorded total sales of 331,255 vehicles - 55,042 vehicles in the domestic market and 276,213 complete vehicles in export markets(excluding CKD). This was a slight increase from 331,125 units sold in the same period last year. GM Korea also exported 527,948 CKD products in the first five months of 2013.
In June, GM Korea will promote the strengths of the Spark by implementing new marketing promotions, such as a new-concept test-drive activity featuring the Spark.
In addition, GM Korea will continue to offer a series of industry-leading promotions and marketing programs, including the First Year 1.9 Percent Super Low Interest Monthly Installment program, Monthly Installment Deferment program, and Special Benefits for the Fresh Start program for newly married couples, new employees, households with a new child, university freshmen and new graduates, and new business founders.
