Ossur Announces World's First Integrated Bionic Prosthetic Leg

J Yook]Global prosthetics leader Össur has developed the world's first Integrated Bionic Prosthetic Leg, leveraging the proven functionality and capabilities of two of its popular prosthetic breakthroughs -- RHEO KNEE® and PROPRIO FOOT® -- into a single, fully integrated unit, the company announced today. Working in concert within the Integrated Bionic Leg, the Bionic foot and knee interact seamlessly and with unprecedented functionality. Having undergone user testing for over a year, this revolutionary new product will be available on a limited basis in late 2011.

Conventional prosthetic devices require their users to consciously focus on each movement even during a simple walk. Össur helped revolutionize the prosthetics landscape with its innovative full line of Bionic Technology, including two unique knees -- RHEO KNEE and POWER KNEE™ -- and the PROPRIO FOOT motorized foot/ankle prosthesis. All of Össur's Bionic prostheses are capable of real-time self-adjustments, thanks to their advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and wireless communications systems, highly sensitive internal sensors, and advanced biomechanical designs.

The new Integrated Bionic Leg has successfully completed intensive testing and verification. Field testing will be expanded to a larger group of users during the summer of 2011. Össur expects the new prosthesis to be available on a limited basis in late 2011, with widespread availability expected in early 2012.
